What is the deal with Match.com?

Lat year I subscribed to this online service for a month. I was able to meet a few people who either did not impress me, had serious issues, or where completely fake, so at the end of my month subscription I canceled the service. I understand this services do work for some people and my question is - is this a hit or miss deal? or a completely waste of money and time? I just wanted to hear some feed back on this, because they are trying to get my business back by sending me "winks" from people who seem to be nice or normal (which is probably a marketing strategy).
